Working to Change Situations In Munyanya

Mary Livingstone, wife of Dr. David Livingstone, died on the Zambezi River in Mozambique in 1862 at Chupanga Village. A biographers says of her ‘She has no choices, only situations,’ describes her life in both Africa and in Europe. When we arrived in Munyanya Village we discovered a community with few options for their families -they were victims of the situation. Munyanya Village is situated forty miles west of Livingstone, Zambia, home of beautiful Victoria Falls. Working with local people we have been able to provide clean water, sanitation, primary health care and education which changed the local peoples’ situations. Wells, water ...

Urgent Call for Support

Due to the drought conditions of the past year in Zambia, we are trying to meet the urgent needs for the Munyanya Village. We need food aid funds as well as funding of $10,000.00 for a borehole which will supply water for the whole village. Additionally, we need $8,000.00 for a 2,500 liters storage tank to be mounted on a concrete floor and held by steel poles. All labor will be done by local people which will create jobs for the people in the village. People are currently carrying water from the river which is now becoming polluted because of the water issues.

A Day of Food and Celebration in the Village

We were able to sponsor and provide a big day of celebration in the Village. The management of Protea Hotel in Livingstone provided transportation for a community of orphans to travel to Munyanya Village and participate in a sports day with the Village children. This was a big event – it took the people’s minds away from the problems of the drought and food problems for just a few hours. All the people were able to have a meal together after the game. This was the ‘first ever’ game in the Munyanya Stadium! Other contributions to the village include clothing, school supplies, building toilets and academic support. A group of women from South ...

Grinding Mill for Food and Income

We recently bought and helped install a grinding mill for Munyanya Village. We anticipate that the rains will come this year whereby people can grow corn to supply the staple food for next year. This grinding mill will also be a source of generating cash for the local people. In normal times women were carrying the corn in large tubs for about 10 miles to get the corn ground. There are many other project in progress in the Munyanya village. We are presently building two toilets in the community, building a house for the grinding mill, building a volleyball court, buying educational books, paper, pencils, crayons and other teaching aids for the ...

Drought and Need for Support

Rains in the southern part of Zambia were not sufficient in 2014 which caused major drought. People in the Kazungula Area had no rain so gardens perished. A few people who live near the river had a better opportunity with their gardens by being able to use treadle pumps, provided by PID. At the present time children are malnourished and hunger abounds. The parents try to keep the children occupied and send the children to preschool each day, but it is difficult for them to concentrate on learning due to the hunger pains.  The drought has been going on for 2 years and has devastated many parts of the country. The domestic animals are also listless ...

Request for Food Aid

People in Munyanya Village are hungry. We have been supplying food stuffs to families with what little monetary resources we can come up with.  Children and adults alike are losing weight due to lack of food.  We can buy a bag of Roller Meal (coarsely ground corn meal, the staple food) and an 11 pound bag of dry beans for $20.00 which can feed a family of five. Since we have started this program over the last week it has given many people hope. We need your help in providing Food Aid to Munyanya Village. The parents of children try to keep the kids coming to preschool, trying to keep things “normal” so as to keep their minds off the hunger ...

Help the Village of Munyanya

In front of our eyes we are seeing a difference and hope from the new school building in the Munyanya village. But we need your help to continue to help the little ones of this community. What you can do to help? The following outlines the multitude of needs. Our school building has no electricity, so we need someone to help us install solar; We need twenty-five pre-school plastic tables. Forty Miles West of Prosperity

We are working on the banks of the Zambezi River, in Munyanya Village, located forty miles west of Livingstone, the tourist capital of Zambia. In Munyanya, one will find the poor, marginalized, and down-trodden. When going to Munyanya Village, the road is brutal on all body parts. The life of a vehicle is short lived. Poverty rules in Munyanya, but that is why we are living and working there. Thanks to our supporters, we have built the first-ever school building in the Munyanya Village, which serves the surrounding communities as well. The building is 10 by 7 meters (23’ x 33’). We used local labor in building the structure.

Malnutrition is Looming in Kazungula District

Zambia has one of the highest rates of stunting in children under the age of five years in the world, with figures indicating 45.8 per cent, higher than the average 42 per cent for the African continent. Other forms of under-nutrition in Zambia include wasting or acute malnutrition (low weight for height), with about five per cent of children under the age of five years being wasted and under-weight, while about 54 per cent of children suffer from both vitamin A and iron deficiencies. Despite impressive levels of economic growth over the last five to 10 years, the country’s progress in tackling malnutrition has lagged considerably behind ...
